In many Indian societies, if a husband passes away, the wife bears the blame for her husband’s death which is considered a manifestation of the wife’s past sins. Considered a bad omen, widows are often abandoned by their families, left destitute, and forced to beg for daily survival. Maitri is striving to influence, reeducate, and change the cultural stigma’s that have created this problem.
