Many children from the slums seeking an education are first-generation learners.  Their parents have no academic background or formal education on any level.  This leaves these children at a disadvantage, as much of their education occurs at home.  To help these kids, Maitri has created a supplemental education programme in its Community Empowerment Centres to give the children one-on-one tutoring from volunteers. Some children have also received scholarships to help them continue their studies in public schools or in higher education.

• Give a child an educational scholarship: Rs. 6,000 ($110 USD)

Donations such as pencils, markers, notebooks, or other learning materials are also graciously accepted.
